Solar Water Fountains Add Tranquility to a Garden

Solar water fountains add tranquility to any backyard garden just as much as regular water fountains. Solar water fountains will cost less money to run because they are powered by the sun’s energy and not electricity. These solar outdoor decorations do not require the use of an electrical outlet; the only time you have any wires attached is if you are planning on having your fountain located in the shade. If this is the case there will be a wire leading from the fountain to a solar panel that will be placed in the sunlight.

These beautiful outdoor decorations not only tend to relax you after a hard days work but will also add beauty to your backyard oasis. There are probably several areas of your garden, patio or front yard landscaping that a water fountain will complement. Just one solar fountain, in the form of a bird bath, a waterfall, or pond fountain, that will bring new adventures to an empty area. Since these solar decorations are powered by the sun’s energy you do not have to worry about placing them near an electrical outlet. The movement of water will attract many birds to a fountain, bird bath or waterfall for a welcome drink. Pond fountains not only add serenity but will also add oxygen to the water for your pond fish to enjoy.

Generally speaking a layered or multi-tiered solar fountain will have the solar panel attached to the fountain by way of a thin wire. This wire will give you at least fifteen feet of length so the panel can be placed where it will benefit from sunlight. Most solar bird baths do not have tiers and the solar panel will be located on the top to collect the sun’s rays. These bird baths will need to be placed in an area that receives the most sunlight during the day.

Now days we want to incorporate into our gardens a little relaxation and fun and what better way to accomplish that than with solar water fountains. We can even place a water fountain in the middle of a flower garden or design a vegetable garden around one. Installing solar outdoor decorations is the beginning of creating an environmental garden oasis by using the sun, one of our natural resources.  

Some solar fountains are available with on/off switches. Having this feature gives you the choice of turning off your fountain when you go away for a few days but it will still absorb the sun’s energy so the fountain can be run during a cloudy day. If you are going to be away for any length of time and do want to run the fountain, turn the fountain off and empty the water. You do not want to leave stagnant water sitting for long periods of time because stagnant water breeds mosquitoes and you do not want to come home to that.  

The prices of outdoor solar water fountains will vary from elaborate to inexpensive; your budget will determine the outcome. The costs vary by the size and construction material used. Some materials might be terracotta, bamboo, slate, resin or some type of metal. Some fountains are available with battery packs so you can use them at night or on cloudy days. Most solar panels are incapable of storing a lot of energy to run the water fountain constantly.  

Since the majority of solar panels are unable to store a lot of energy and you want your fountain to work on cloudy days you may want to purchase the fountains equipped with on/off switches. Some solar fountains are lightweight and mobile for easy movement to indoors; these are available with AC adapters. The advantages to solar water fountains are user-friendly, no electricity needed, and “green”.
